The Chinese came to Mauritius a long time ago to become one of the multiple cultural group that co exist in Mauritius.

My mom's grand parent arrived in Mauritius during the Chinese communism regime. My koung-koung and popo (grand parents) are fluent in Chinese Hakka, a dialect spoken by my mom's grand parents. My mom can also speak some Hakka, and would from time to time use some random Hakka words when speaking to me. My grand parents and mom also speak Mandarin.

For the Chinese New Year (Lunar New year), Mauritius would resonate with Lion dance drum and cymbals, and Chinese red firecrackers. It is too loud for me. There will also be lion dance and dragon dance on the streets. The attract a lot of people, I do not really like crowds.

We also have good food. A lot of food. I particularly like the noodles and the rice, but most of all the green vegetables and the cheese sticks.
