Meeting you

I could picture you before you were born, and I knew you were going to be different.

When you were in Mommy's tummy, I could picture you - I just knew how you would look like. I also had a feeling you would be different. But unlike your Mommy, I do not have a background in psychology or education, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) was unknown territory to me.

As a newborn, everyone kept on telling us that we were too overprotective of you that is why you would cry so much, sensitive to sound and texture, and needing to be held every time. When we moved to Dubai, I was on Daddy duty and you would not take the bottle, and would need me to hold you all day long. I did not understand what I was doing wrong. I did not understand what was different with you.

Your Mommy mentioned her doubts of ASD but somehow, I refused to believe that my sweet perfect little girl could be different with a disability. Now, I realise that ASD does not mean you are not perfect. You are perfect. You are my perfect little girl.
